What is craft_ufacturing?
Everyday, unique items are made in America’s garages, basements, barns, and backyards. Some of these are truly one-of-a-kind; however, many are crafted in small runs. Whether a project is created from cloth on a sewing machine or from wood using standard shop tools, making several copies is often the only way to make up for the setup time and tooling needed to produce something intended for sale. Craft_ufacturers gain economy of scale the same way manufacturers do. This not only increases earning potential but also allows for greater quality control, as pieces that are not suitable for sale can be discarded. It also increases profit for the artisan, since setup and tooling costs can be spread across multiple items. This micro-scaling will never bring the cost of craftufactured products down to the level of mass-produced items. However, it is our belief that America’s craftufacturers should have the opportunity to showcase and sell their products on a platform that respects their investment of time and money to create something that cannot be easily replicated on a large scale.
